Exclusive micro W16 engine timepiece Jacob & Co. x Bugatti Chiron tourbillon is the first brand new timepiece in this collaboration
It all started with the idea of Bugatti and Jacob & Co.-how to reproduce the inner feeling of the iconic Bugatti W16 engine in a clock. Cars and watches have always had a special connection, and many car fans also love watches. Both require the highest mechanical precision and combine beauty with performance in a unique way. However, the watch movement has never really captured the feeling, energy and power of a high-performance car engine. This is a challenge.
A watch commemorating the Bugatti Chiron
After nearly a year of development, Jacob & Co. replica has now launched the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon, which aims to commend the Chiron 1 and its legendary 16-cylinder engine. The design of the case is inspired by Chiron’s smooth lines, and the movement or “engine block” (designed to replicate a Bugatti engine) is placed under a huge sapphire crystal.
Push the right crown of the timepiece and the engine becomes lifelike-the crankshaft turns and the pistons pump up and down, just like a real internal combustion engine. When the engine is running, there are two “turbochargers” on the side of the engine block (the actual Chiron engine has four). The movement consists of 578 components, which is the highest degree of complexity for the development team.
Brand new and challenging development
The incredible flying tourbillon movement is completely clean design. Jacob & Co. has been cooperating with movement suppliers for more than a year to achieve this amazing achievement. The top and sides of the watch are sapphire crystals, making each side of the watch visible. Of course, in the center is the engine animation. The crankshaft that drives the crankshaft is one of the smallest and most complex watch parts ever made, and is made from a single piece of solid steel. The movement is completely suspended in four places, looking like the actual vibration of Chiron. The movement actually floats inside the case, moving up and down. The engine block is composed of two “exhaust ports”, thus completing the design of the engine theme.
Apart from animation, the overall theme is pure-less is more. Except for the flying tourbillon with the Jacob & Co. logo, anywhere else on the front of the watch, the only other trademark is the subtle EB logo on the engine compartment. The crankcase is equipped with 16 pistons, ready and ready. Jacob & Co. x Bugatti Chiron tourbillon is the real engine on the wrist.
About the partnership
In 2019, Bugatti signed a partnership with Jacob & Co. to create a unique timepiece. These watches follow the spirit of the two companies and push the watchmaking industry to impossible heights.
In order to create a performance-led partnership, two timepieces were created. Based on Twin Turbo Furious and Epic X Chrono, these watches are directly inspired by the unique design and spirit of Bugatti supercars.
This year, Bugatti and Jacob & Co. will launch new watches in the Twin Turbo Furious series, and now they have launched the new Bugatti Chiron series.
